Suma (Pfaffia paniculata) root – bulk powder.
Preparations
Suma is taken in the form a tincture, decoction, and in capsules. Traditionally, the root is taken in the form of a decoction at a suggested dosage of 1 cup, 2 times daily.
To prepare a decoction of Suma, 10 grams of the powdered root is used for each liter of water. Using medium-high heat, bring water to a boil in an open ceramic pot and then add the powder. Reduce the heat to medium-low and place the lid on the pot. Allow the mixture to simmer for 20 minutes. Pour the mixture through a fine strainer and allow it to cool for a time before drinking. Refrigerate unused portions in a well-sealed container.
