Preparations
An infusion (tea) of the dried leaves is taken at a suggested dosage of 1 cup, 23 times a day. The powdered leaves are also available in capsules.
To prepare the infusion, place half a cup of the powdered leaves in a tea ball or gauze bag and allow the powder to steep in 4 cups of freshly boiled hot water in a covered pot for 1015 minutes. Pour the infusion through a fine strainer to remove any sediment and allow it to cool for a time before drinking. Refrigerate unused portions in a well sealed container.
In Peru, the dried leaves are traditionally prepared as a macerate believed to support healthy sexual activity. The macerate is prepared by allowing 1 cup of the leaves to sit in 2 cups of cold water for a full day, after which half a cup is drunk 2 to 3 times daily.
