"Please be aware that we are happy to donate funds to any religious or secular not-for-profits as long as they meet our standards and criteria.
"We strive to support 4-star, highest-rated organizations - as evaluated and judged by Charity Navigator, a not-for-profit, open-access charity evaluation service - with possible exceptions under certain circumstances.
"We are not, for example, happy about Kiva's mediocre 3-star rating, but we like their business and the way they go about helping people who want to help themselves. Kiva, in fact, isn't a charity—Kiva grants "micro-loans" to hard-working individuals who need money to start a self-supporting business or fund any other worthy inititive. We've loaned money to good man in Ghana who needed a few hundred dollars for construction materials for a well to provide clean water for a village. We loaned money to woman in Haiti who wanted to buy a laying hen for eggs to sell and feed her young children. I still get goosebumps thinking about that. She paid back every penny on time. Wow.
Recipients repay the loan over time, at which point we roll the money back over to Kiva to loan to the next person in line. We've never had a default. Kiva does a great job of finding serious people in serious need who aren't looking for a handout—all they're asking for is a helping hand.

1. I accept zero compensation of any kind in return for my time and labor for Trusted Source Herbal Consultants, maximizing the company's profits, 100 percent of which we give away after paying basic and minimal business overhead.
2. To make sure we are distributing money to responsible and trustworthy not-for-profits that aren't spending more on executive pay and perks than they are giving to people in true need, we carefully and fully vet the organizations we support.
