About Black Haw
Black Haw, also known as wild raisin due to its edible fruits, has long been used as a uterine remedy in Native American herbal traditions. Black Haw is appropriate as a substitute for Viburnum opulus, a closely related herb that is nearly identical botanically, chemically & medicinally. Herbalist David Winston notes, “Based on my clinical experience and that of the Eclectic Physicians, Black Haw is slightly stronger as an antispasmodic. I definitely prefer it. It is funny that Cramp Bark got the common name based on this usage when for most of the 1830s- 1940s, Black Haw was the preferred species.”
